//Before and After: Client Sandy Castles//

Obvs I have said it a million times…but I love a good BEFORE + AFTER and guess what…..It’s time for another one!!!  Can I just say I absolutely loved working with and adored these easygoing clients that I dubbed #ClientSandyCastles! This house was such a huge transformation turning from a dark and dated space into a light and airy breezy beach pad. I was lucky enough to get to work with architect extraordinaire Eric Olsen and dream contractor Luke of  Showalter Construction who made this project SO great to work on. I have said it before and I am saying  it again, working with talented trades, and really trusting and easy-going clients make for the BEST projects, and Sandy Castles was no exception. It was a really amazing job from start to finish.

So what did we do? Well this house was completely renovated. New kitchen, new layouts, new floors, removed walls, added rooms and a bathroom for their sweet little kiddos. I love how every part of  this home turned out – especially the kitchen and the adorable kids’ rooms. Take a looksie and tell me what y’all think!!

  1. Wow, this house is a dream. I have a question that might be a good blog post topic for a rainy day. As a designer, how are you able to influence your aesthetic so much into a project from A to Z? Every detail seems to be so fluid and one of my struggles is getting a client to let go of some of their “vision” so that we can actually finish, down to the artwork and accessories. Often times they want to take over after a certain point after the bigger work is done and in my mind, the project remains very much unfinished. If that makes sense….? Thanks!

    • I would also love to know your secret for this! I realize that it could partially be staging for the photographs, but it does seem like you are able to leave your stamp on the project from start to finish. Is this part of your contract in the beginning?

  2. Another amazing job! Would you mind telling me the white paint you used throughout? Also, where is the Capiz chandelier from? Thanks again for some inspiration!

  3. Wow -fantastic transformation! I just recently discovered your blog & I’ve found that your interiors really strike a chord with me. I particularly like how all the spaces maintain their own personalities but coexist beautifully with one another. You have a knack for introducing just a few key colorful moments of cheerfulness that almost make the rooms hum/buzz..? (You might even be teaching my eye -which currently loves me a room fUll of colorful art and high contrasts- that sometimes, less really is more…) Congrats on another lovely, aspirational space! Sincerely, emily jane

  4. Amber, you are a genious! This entire house is amazing and such a fantastic transformation! Those little girls are so lucky with that beautiful big space. I seriously wouldn’t even have recognized this house afterwards! Cheers to you on a job VERY well done!

  5. Yes yes yes. Amazing transformation. Love it all. You are a beacon of hope for me … we are considering a move to the valley but I could not get past the dumpy ranch houses with orange granite. Now I see what can be done …you have cheered me beyond measure!

  6. Hi Amber,
Oh, I am obsessed with your design style! I live in New Canaan, CT, and after a hard winter with burst pipes, I am finally gearing up for the massive renovation. Wondering if you would share details about the floor type in first photo of the foyer after. Is it white oak? How is it finished (stain or a mix?) Wish you lived on the East coast!

  7. So beautiful, you should be really proud of you and your team. One question though, in the girls room who gets the double bed, and who gets the single/couch?!

  8. This house is A M A Z I N G!!! I love your style! Nobody does it like you! You take dark houses and make them bright, sofisticated, comfortable and super stylish! Keep the before and afters coming. Thanks Amber!

  9. So beautiful and inspiring (as usual). I know you don’t give too many sources, but would you be willing to share where you got the zigzag basket filled with stuffed animals in the “little dude’s” room. I am decorating my little boy’s room, and would love to get something similar!

  10. Hey Amber! Great work as always! Random question…where did you get those lifeguard tower prints in the last photo? I’m from Oceanside (where the photos were shot) and spent many of days under those towers! Would be cool for my house! Thank you and can’t wait to visit your new store next trip up north!!! :)

  12. I am DYING over the girls’ room. The whole house is gorgeous, but that room just takes the cake! It’s the stuff dreams are made of.

  13. Amber, your designs are inspiring our home remodel…I just love everything you do! Please please tell me where the pendent lights in the kitchen and over the kitchen table are from. They are exactly what I am looking for…
    Thank you!!!

  14. how do you get the walls to look so fresh/clean? do you put drywall up or skim coat the existing walls? i know you’re hesitant to provide sources, but if you can at least let us know overall upgrades, that would be great!
